Kildare Village Summer Festival
For anyone yet to experience the Kildare Village Summer Festival, I’d suggest that you look to this weekend as the perfect time to get down there. The four-week long festival brings together entertainment, shopping and Irish artisan food all within the comfortable and relaxed setting of Kildare Village. The festival, which launched on July 1st with the arrival of star guest Whitney Port, designer of Whitney Eve, may be nearly two weeks in but it isn’t losing any momentum and in my opinion is getting better and better with each passing day.
One of this years highlights for me is taking place this Friday from a specially constructed stage in the piazza. As part of the festival and to celebrate Kildare Village’s fifth anniversary there will be a free gig from Choice Music Prize nominee Cathy Davy. The free gig is on at 8pm and all you need to do is register on the site and become a VIP member of Kildare Village. Easy peasy!
Another part of the festival that I think is particularly cool is something from their star guest, Whitney Eve. Whitney has created an exclusive canvas bag for Barretstown, which is exclusively available in Kildare Village for the duration of Summertime Festival, priced at €15. Best of all, all profits go to Barretstown.
Whitney Port commented, ‘I am so excited to be the face of the Summertime Festival @ Kildare Village especially as I get to take part in my two favourite pastimes shopping and designing. I’ve created the perfect summer bag which will be sold at Kildare Village to raise money for Barretstown children’s charity. This will be my first visit to Ireland and The Summertime Festival makes Kildare Village the perfect stop for me to enjoy performances, food and entertainment this July. ‘
Dee Ahearn, CEO of Barretstown commented, 'We are delighted Kildare Village has chosen to support Barretstown in their Summertime Festival campaign with the launch of the canvas bag by Whitney Port. This year as Kildare Village celebrates their fifth anniversary, Barretstown will pass the milestone of welcoming 20,000 children and their families from Ireland and across Europe since being founded in 1994. Childhood cancer affects so many families in Ireland each year, and through the support of Kildare Village, we can continue to welcome as many campers as possible each year.’
This is really just a snapshot of everything going on and I would strongly recommend that you pop over to www.kildarevillage.com/summertimefestival for full details.

Uniqlo Lucky Machine
With three stages of play each customer is given three balls but with the option to get more balls by inviting their friends to play the game via Facebook or Twitter. So the more friends you invite the more chances you have at winning! As with all the Uniqlo promotions and activities to date, this is a breath of fresh air both from a mechanic and a design point of view. Hat tip to chaps involved, very nice work. Check out this video, it pretty much explains all...

Nike Free Run+ & DJ Daito Manabe and co.

It seems that I've posted a lot of videos etc. all stemming from shoe and clothing companies. The truth is though, that's simply because it seems to be fashion labels that are pushing digital. It's fashion brands that are using digital as their primary and key communications channel. And so here we have yet another genius piece of marketing from a fashion label, this time Nike.
This is the new Japanese campaign for Nike's Free Run+ shoes. This is a smart and stunning collaboration with DJ Daito Manabe and co., and sees the crew pumping out the 'chunes' in the oddest of ways. Using specially outfitted runners equipped with the newest flex sensors (the new sensors change resistance when bent), the pair achieve awesome effects controls. Check this out, and try not to be imptressed!

adidas 'Street Where Originality Lives'

For those of you who were at the cinema today, you may have been lucky enought to see the new adidas 'Street Where Originality Lives' ad. It just went live across Irish cinemas and features David Beckham, Snoop Dogg, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Agyness Dean, Ciara, Whitney Port (The Hills)......and other celeb types. Check out the video below, or for loads of behind the scenes interviews and footage with the stars of the ad pop over to the adidas YouTube channel.
If you're interested, and I know I was as it's a banging tune, the ad is soundtracked to the Pilooski remix of Dee Edwards’ “Why Can’t there be love”.

A site to make you smile - UNIQLO Parka Style 1000
This is probably my favourite UNIQLO campaign and site to date. As soon as you get to the site you are bombarded with happiness and positivity. Fun, happy, dancing people and all in the name of fashion. If I owned a clothes store or brand, this is exactly how I would want my products positioned.
Fantastic work!
Oh, and check out the site intro - that is a brilliant way to keep you occupied while the site loads.

Now that's fashion
Jean Charles de Castelbajac has made the bold (and perhaps totally outragious) move of unveiling his Spring/Summer 2009 collection with a slightly out of the ordinary catwalk show. Not women dressed as rubbish or covered in mud, as some of his contemporaries have done. JC is going a step further and using an animated LEGO video.
This is absolutely fantastic!

Ralph Lauren introduces Digital Window
So what do you do when you're out for the night and you happened to spot something in a shop window that you just have to have? Usually you tell yourself you'l come back and pick it up, but realistically that's never goinjg to happen. Obviously aware of this, the people over at Ralph Lauren have taken Window-shopping to an entirely new level: the digital one.
Shoppers now have the ability to buy that item immediately - thanks to RL's new interactive window display in their New York store. All you need to do is download a QR code to your phone (check if your phone is compatible here: m.ralphlauren.com). Once you have the code and are at the store you can use it to scan any of the QR codes on the RL store touchscreen. Your phone will then be redirected you to the same item on their website and you can buy it immediately.
So if you're ever passing by and the store is closed or if you just don't want to go into the shop, there's nothing stopping you spending to your hearts content. To further this, QR codes are to be implemented in all RL stores and print ads as well.

Google Fashion
It seems Google are poised to take over the..... fashion world?
Well perhaps not, but oogle FashionSatya Paul an Indian fashion designer has created this original Google saree. Trademark issues I hear you call! Well to avoid any trademark issue with Google Satya has just put an O there instead of G.
Clever dude.
